It is a different type of experience to see India by sailing down the Ganges.  This sailing tour starts from holy city of Allahabad and finishes at eternal city of Varanasi. We sail down through the sacred and fertile Gangetic plain to Varanasi. Life on shore varies as we drift peacefully along; the ornate temples and crowded bathing ghats, the fields of wheat and rice paddies, everyday life and stunning sunsets. We camp in 2-man tents on a beach on the banks of the river.

Chunar Fort of Medieval India & Ramnagar Fort are historical architect in this tour. Its a perfect way to soak into meditating pace and some quality relaxing time. Craping on the sandy island under the starlit sky is a life time experience!!

Varanasi (Benares) has been the centre of Hinduism since the dawn of history, its age is contemporary with Babylon and Thebes. Often known as  ‘Kashi’(City of Light) by Hindus it attracts over a million pilgrims each year – many of whom come to spend their last years here in the holy city. Having gained enlightenment at Bodh Gaya the Buddha came to Sarnath to preach his first sermon. The city was at its peak in the 5th century, when it was a respected centre of religious activity, learning and art. Muslim invaders destroyed much of the city and today remains of several monasteries and stupas can be seen along with the small museum which has a well displayed collection. The afternoon is left free in Varanasi to enable you to explore the bazaars and temples that line the banks of the river or perhaps this evening, it may be possible to attend an optional classical musical performance.

Trip Notes

This trip is suitable for anyone in reasonable health.  We will be staying in Alpine tents  for few nights where you will be provided with mats and sleeping bags ( you are also welcome to get your own sleeping bags).  Boats that we sail on will be an ungraded version of local boats used there. India is a developing country and the tourist infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh is in its infancy. Be prepared to leave city expectations behind; piping hot water may not be available at all times of the day and cooling fans may well rattle! A little patience and a sense of humor are essential.
