A perfect Jeep Safari where you cross high passes of Kunzum La ( 4550 m) , a fantastic off-beaten circuit to explore 1000 year old Buddhist Monastries. Touch base at the highest road connected village in the world at 4400 m, explore the old Tibetan trade route and visit remote untouched areas where you can experience unadulterated outdoors.

- Spend a night camping by the tranquil and enigmatic Chandra Tal or the moon lake.
Day 01- DELHI CHANDIGARH SHIMLA, DRIVE:110 KMS, DURATION:0730 HR
Early morning transfer to railway station to board Train (Shatabdi Express) to Chandigarh. Met on arrival at Chandigarh and drive to Shimla (2205 M) by covering approx 90 kms in 3 hrs. Arrive and check-into hotel. In the afternoon, proceed for sightseeing tour of Shimla. Overnight stay in hotel.
Day 02- SHIMLA SARAHAN, DRIVE: 183 KMS, DURATION:0700 HR
Morning after breakfast free at leisure. After lunch start Jeep safari to reach Sarahan (1920 M) via Narkanda (2690 m) by covering approx 183 km in 6 hrs. It is located amid mountains with towering Srikhand Mahadev (5155 M) as a backdrop. Arrive Sarahan and check-in Guest House for overnight stay.
Soaked in nature’s beauty, Sarahan is flanked on the banks of the meandering Sutlej River. The way to Sarahan through Fagu, Theog, Narkanda, Rampur, and Jeori is extremely scenic-traversing through mountains flanked by steep cliffs on one side and deep ravines on the other, dense emerald pine forests, terraced farms, apple orchards.
Once in Sarahan, one beholds a range of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks and one of them is the Shrikhand Peak. The rather peculiar thing about this peak is that it is only one whose tip remains uncovered with snow. I
Day 03- SARAHAN KALPA, DRIVE: 95 KMS, DURATION:0800 HR
Morning after breakfast proceed to visit Bhimkali temple, a rare combination of Bhuddhist and Hindu architecture which is appox 200 years old. Later drive to Kalpa (2759 m) via Rekonpio (2758 M) by covering appox 95 kms in about 4-5 hrs.This area is known for wood carvings and grapes. Kalpa offers very good view of Kinner Kailash mountain range & mount Raldang.
Arrive and check-in at Kinner Villa for overnight stay.
Day 04, KALPA- NAKO- TABO- REKONPIO, DRIVE: 186 KM, DURATION:0800 HR
Morning after breakfast start safari at about 8:00 AM with packed lunch, to reach Tabo via Nako. On reaching Nako village which is a beautiful village situated at a height of 3662 Mtr, we visit the beautiful lake which freezes in the winter and villagers play ice hockey during this period. We will see the temple of Padamsambhava, the second incarnation of Lord Buddha who made Buddhism popular in the Trans Himalayas.
By evening arrive at Tabo and check- in at the Hotel for overnight stay
Day 05, TABO, DURATION:1000 HR
The Tabo Gompa, or Buddhist monastery, is second in importance only to the Tholing Gompa in Tibet in the entire Himalayan region. It is known that the Chos-Khor at Tabo commanded great importance, and hosted for a considerable period, many great scholars and translators in the Buddhist history studies. To date, it is the preserver of the Buddhist Legacy and is one of the most important Gompa of the entire Tibetan Buddhist world..
Morning we visit TABO CHOSKOR, a compound of around 9 small and large halls with Magnificient paintings and murals. Dating back to 1000 AD onwards, these were created under the supervision of the great Tibetan Translator Lotsava Rinchen Zangpo. Tabo Monastery is more known as the ” Ajanta of the Himalayas” .
In the afternoon we take a lovely village walk to see some of the cave shrines which were used by monks who came for learning. Dinner & Overnight at Hotel
Day 06, TABO- DHANKAR- LALLUNG- KAZA, DRIVE: 80 KMS, DURATION:0800 HR
Morning we proceed to visit Lallung Monastery around, a small tiny village 20 km off the main road , visit the Old Gompa which is still intact in its old charm. Later we dirve to Dhankar and visit Dhankar Gompa. Dhankar was a strategic point during the early days as its is located on a high cliff mountian from where one can have a magnificient views of Pin valley and Spiti valley. We visit the ruin Fort and the Old Monastery.
Continue driving to Kaza and reach Kaza by evening. Check- in at Hotel for overnight stay.
Day 07, KAZA
Kibber, the highest village in the world, is located at an altitude of about 4205 m. The main attraction is Kibber Sanctuary. Kibber also serves as a base camp for the trek to the Tso Morari Lake in Ladakh.
Kibber Sanctuary is the only sanctuary in the country which is situated in the cold desert area and covers about 1400 sq km. Wildlife species include blue sheep and ibex. Panoramic views of Shilla Peak and Parang La Pass are the added features. Kee Gompa, on the way to Kibber, is worth a visit.
Have a day trip to Kibber and return back to Kaza for Lunch. Evening free at leisure.
Day 08, KAZA- KUNZUM LA- CHANDRATAL, DRIVE (70 kms), TREK (3 kms),DURATION:0800HR
No matter what we say about this road, you’ll still be stunned when you see it so we’re just going to let you experience it without any attempt to describe it to you. Cross over the mighty Kunzum La (4553m) and then take the dirt road to Chandra Tal. The cars don’t go up to the lake so you’ll have to trek for 3 km to reach the beautiful lake.
The Moon Lake ( Chandratal) is stunning and worth every meter of bad road driven.
The lake is situated at an altitude of about 4200 Mtrs. The water is crystal clear, and it boasts of different shades of blue as the day progresses. A small meadow at either side of the lake makes it a perfect location to enjoy and spend rest of the day.
Overnight in camps situated few km’s away from the Lake. (camping has been banned near the lake).
Day 09, CHANDRATAL-ROHTANG PASS- MANALI, DRIVE (130 km), DURATION:0800HR
Continue on the stunning Kaza to Manali road and cross into Lahaul. We join the Manali – Keylong road behind the Rohtang Pass and cross the pass and descend back to civilization n traffic .
Check-in the hotel . Relax in hotel or walk around Manali
Day 10, MANALI- CHANDIGARH- DELHI, DRIVE ( 290 kms), TRAIN (dep: 1750 / arr: 2150)
Start early today and drive to Kalka railways station (Chandigarh). It will take around 7-8 hours to reach Kalka in time to board train back to Delhi.
Arrive Delhi by night at around 10 pm.

While on the trip the temperatures expected during the day are as high as 20 -25 degree Celsius and average night temperatures expected are 10 – 08 degree Celsius. Except during bad weather when the temperature can go low.
MEDICAL & FIRST AID
This tour goes into the remote regions of Lahaul Spiti where very basic professional medical help may be available. It is your responsibility to ensure that you are in good health and physically & mentally fit to join the trip.
The tour leader, though not qualified medically, is competent to give first-aid if and when required. In case you have an existing medical condition or disability you must inform us before making a booking with us.
DELAY & UNEXPECTED HINDRANCE
Delays are expected on account of roadblock & weather conditions. Our effort will be to continue with the trip as per the schedule & make you as comfortable as possible. But in such situations we may have to compromise on the campsite / hotels & adjust to these situations then & there.
- Shimla : In a heritage hotel on bed and breakfast basis
- Sarahan: In a basic ( but best available accommodation ) with breakfast and dinner included
- Kalpa : Stay in a hotel with lovely mountain views with Breakfast & Dinner included
- Tabo: In neat, clean hotel/guest house with all meals
- Kaza: In a deluxe hotel with all meals included
- Chandratal : Tented accommodation on twin sharing with all meals included.
- Manali : Luxury hotel in old Manali with all meals included.
High levels of fitness are not required for this trip. However, you need to be in general good health as we cross high altitude passes that goes up to 4500 m.
WHEN TO GO?
The best time to visit Lahaul & Spiti is during summer i.e. from mid May to mid October. The valley’s are snow bound from November – May and remains isolated from rest of the world. It’s a high altitude desert, monsoons that touch north from July – Aug doesn’t make a dent it this region and in fact that is the perfect time to visit Lahaul – Spiti.
Children above the age of 8 are accepted on this trip with a strong sense of adventure. Children will get to experience the Tibetan culture, Interact with monks of their age studying in monastery schools. Children under 12 sharing their parents’ room receive a discounted price. There are no babysitting facilities along the route, but extra bedding and special dishes can be arranged with advance notice.
